Amy Belcher - Owner/Teacher

Amy Belcher has been teaching for over 20 years and her background in gymnastics/tumbling spans 12 years. She danced on schlorship with the Kaleidoscope Dancer's Company at UCO while pursuing a degree in dance education. She has studied Early Childhood Developmental Psychology, Anatomy/Kinesiology, and Preventing/Treating Injuries. Amy continues her education each summer with a Master Teacher's Workshop at OCU and throughout the year at various dance conventions and workshops.She taught and administered the dance program at Sellers Dance from January 1996 until May 2010. Prior to that she taught at her childhood studio Furman Gray/FGI in Midwest City, OK. She has studied with and been featured in works by many dance professionals including Debra Knapp, Jo Rowan, David Howard, Gregg Russell, Barry Youngblood, Brian Friedman, Tyce Diorio, Destiny Rogers, Blake McGrath, Mandy Moore and Ivan Koumaev. Amy has been a performing member of the dance companies Psudeodance Theatre and Perpetual Motion Modern Dance Company. She was the tumbling/stunt cheerleading coach for Santa Fe South Jr. and Senior Highs in Oklahoma City and was the founding director of sacred steps liturgical dance group at Wickline United Methodist Church in Midwest City. She completed her Cecchetti Teacher's Grade I Certification in 2013 and Grade II in 2014. Amy treasures all her dance accomplishments, but is most proud of her family; her husband Aaron, son Levin, daughter Rowen, and daughter Aralyn.

DeLyn Richardson - Teacher

DeLyn has been dancing for over 25 years and began her serious training in Des Moines, where she studied under Mary Joyce Lind of Iowa Dance Theatre, a pre-professional children's ballet company. Throughout the years, she performed many corps and soloist roles in productions such as "Paquita", "Dracula", and "The Nutcracker". In school she was very active in cheerleading, colorguard, and theater - often serving as dance captain and providing choreography for many productions and performances. She continued her dance education at Oklahoma City University where she majored in Dance Management and performed with the American Spirit Dance Company while on scholarship. She attends outside classes, conventions, and dance workshops when possible and is a licensed Zumba ZIN instructor. Some teachers she has studied under include Jo Rowan, Robert Reed, Viktoria Page, Al Gilbert, Debbie Dee, Patrick Roddy, and Natalia Chapourskaya. She has been teaching ballet, tap, jazz, and tumbling to all ages for 15 years,10 of them at A Step Above. When she is not dancing, she's involved with Autism and disability advocacy efforts, running and training for local 5Ks, drinking coffee, watching true-life crime tv shows, reading biographies, and spending time with her husband Isaac and their sons Adrian and Cameron.

Tori Hidalgo - Teacher

Tori has aspired to be a dance teacher since she was six years old. She started her dance career when she was four with a dance group at her local church, and began her formal training at the age of seven at Seller's Dance. Tori continued her dance education at A Step Above School of Dance until the age of eighteen. Throughout her years of taking class Tori has attended many dance conventions and has taken class from several esteemed dancers and choreographers such as Derrick Schrader, Tony Bellissimo, and Laurie Johnson. She is very experienced in working with children given she has six siblings, and has been working at a child watch for the YMCA for years. In the time she has been working with children she has been trained to adapt to situations with special needs children and those with learning disabilities. She is a yoga enthusiast and often incorporates it in her class. Tori enjoys traveling and loves to go camping whenever given the chance!

Megan Wilson - Teacher

Megan has been dancing for 8 years. She began her dance education with Penny Capps of The Pointe Performing Arts Center. She began performing with the Carl Albert Middle School Pom Squad in 6th grade and was a member through her senior year. While participating on the squad, Megan reached goals of winning many state, national, and grand champion titles along with having many choreography and teaching opportunities. Megan graduated from Carl Albert High School in 2014 and is attending Rose State College pursing a degree in Physical Therapy. Megan is excited to expand her dancing career here at A Step Above by helping others reach their dreams in dance.

Nicole Myers - Teacher

Nicole has been dancing for over 20 years. She went to California State University East Bay in Hayward, CA where she received her BA in Liberal Studies and Minor in Dance. During her years at CSUEB she studied many forms of dance including: Modern, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, African, Capoeira, and Ballroom Dance. She took classes in Dance for Children, as well as Theory/History/Technique/Teaching principles. During her 3 years at CSUEB she performed in over 10 university dance productions and musicals, as well as various performances around the CA Bay Area at local high schools and dance venues as part of the CSUEB Dance Touring Group. She taught several workshops and volunteer classes at local dance studios as part of her dance teacher training. After graduation Nicole went on to study Belly Dance at various studios around the CA Bay Area and attending workshops featuring professional belly dancers. She started performing belly dance routines in Oklahoma briefly, and then took a break for a few years to have her first 3 children. In 2006 Nicole was stationed overseas at Lajes Field Air Base where she started a full time dance program through the community center for the American and Portugese families stationed at the airbase. She successfully ran the program teaching full time by herself which included tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, and belly dance classes for students ranging from 3 years through adults. While at Lajes she also learned Hula/Tahitian dancing and frequently performed both Hula and Belly Dance for local Portugese and US AirBase events and celebrations. Upon returning to the US Nicole endeavored in liturgical dance at the Base Chapel at Altus AFB and her local church in Altus. She started teaching at A Step Above in the fall of 2014 and loves teaching dance to all of our students! When she’s not a dance teacher, Nicole also has her husband and 5 children from 17 years down to 7 years old to share life with, and is a full time Payroll Tax Specialist for Nextep, Inc.

Kelly Mitcham - Teacher

Kelly has a 34 yr background in tumbling and gymnastics, and has been coaching for 20 plus years. She started competing at the age of 5 yrs old with the Towsend Twisters and competed competitively with them until age 12. She has multiple state and national placings within her gymnastics background. At the age of 13 she began competitive cheer and continued throughout her high school years. Her cheer honors include multiple all american team selections and 2, top five national placings. Kelly was part of The Spirit of Oklahoma tumbling and cheer squads and held multiple division titles with each. She was an assistant tumbling instructor at the Spirit 0f Oklahoma gym under the advise of Barbie Parker. While in college, she was an assistant cheer coach at Del City High School and took on many independent coaching positions for tumbling. After college and into recent years, Kelly has continued to be involved with tumbling as a private coach. She has a passion and love for tumbling and gymnastics and is super excited to join our team this year. She looks forward to helping each student reach their full potential while developing a deeper love for art of tumbling. Kelly enjoys going to the lake, being outdoors and watching sports, but she says her biggest blessings are her husband Chad and their children Cheyenne and Zain!

Ethan Phillips - Teacher

Ethan started out in dance when he was 9, and did that for 6 years. He then found his passion in tumbling as he taught myself how to do many skills while still in dance. He then decided to try cheer and did that for a year and won nationals in South Padre Island. He then decided to try gymnastics and fell in love with it. Starting at age 16 as a level 6 gymnast, he quickly went up to training as a level 9. Ethan has placed first 2 times for floor and won many first place awards in dance.
